THE PALLOTTINES — SOCIETY OF THE CATHOLIC APOSTOLATE (SAC)
A Missionary Family Serving the Church Worldwide
The Pallottines, formally known as the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (SAC), were founded in 1835 in Rome by St. Vincent Pallotti, a priest whose vision continues to inspire the Church today. In a time of crisis, Pallotti recognized the urgent need to revive faith, rekindle charity, and awaken every Christian to their apostolic vocation. He taught that every person — priest, religious, or lay faithful — is called to share in Christ’s mission, and that all talents and abilities can become instruments of the Gospel.
From a small beginning, the Pallottine family has grown into a global missionary community present in nearly forty countries. Pallottines serve in parishes, schools, formation houses, social outreach centres, and missions in remote and underserved regions across Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania. Their charism is simple and profound: to revive faith, to re‑enkindle charity, and to bring all people into the life and mission of the Church. They are pioneers in promoting lay apostolate and collaboration among clergy, religious, and laity — a vision that anticipated the spirit of Vatican II.
In India, the Pallottine mission began in 1951 and has grown into several provinces, including the Our Lady of Good Health (OLGH) Province in Tamil Nadu, to which Father Aruldhas Lucas SAC belongs. Rooted in the Marian heritage of Velankanni, the OLGH Province is blessed with many priests and seminarians and serves through pastoral ministry, education for poor children, empowerment of women, healing ministry, and outreach to the marginalized.
Today, Pallottines continue to live the spirit of their founder, who taught that the Christian life is one of action — few words, many deeds, and deeds done well. Their mission remains universal, tireless, and deeply rooted in the Gospel invitation: “Go out to the streets and invite everyone to the banquet of life.” Inspired by the motto Caritas Christi urget nos — “The love of Christ urges us on” — the Pallottines joyfully serve God’s people across the world, reviving faith, rekindling charity, and forming apostles for today’s Church.
